 I was reading reviews of this book on Amazon tonight and one of them included an inspiring quote from the book, attributed to1960's House Beautiful editor, Elizabeth Gordon: "If you can't find beauty--for free--when you are poor, you won't be likely to have it when you are rich...even though you may have bought and paid for it."  When I googled the quote, this article came up.  I had this book years ago and loved it.  I think I gave it away at some point.  So I reserved it at the library.

A few weekends ago I watched the PBS series Art in the 21st Century.  One of the artists featured was Sally Mann.  It was a fascinating series and interesting to hear her talk about how she got some of those incredible, seemingly effortless shots of her children that she is best known for (but that actually took a lot of work!).  These are a couple of her landscapes.

Today I happened upon this blog (her pictures of her kitchen in Marin made me flash on Kate's beautiful and inviting one, with scents of boxwood and bay...and made me a bit teary) and this post about Furoshiki.  I've wondered how to make those origami like wraps for presents.  This video shows how to make bags.  Click on the picture below to see it bigger.
