Street views on google maps are too much fun

So imagine that you are reading along in a book and they describe a building, the address and all.  Map it and do the street view and you've got a great "like you are there" experience.  That's what happened last night as I read the opening pages of 1185 Park Avenue by Anne Roiphe.  (I had just read her book Epilogue: over the weekend).  You can go anywhere!

Words

 I was reading reviews of this book on Amazon tonight and one of them included an inspiring quote from the book, attributed to1960's House Beautiful editor, Elizabeth Gordon: "If you can't find beauty--for free--when you are poor, you won't be likely to have it when you are rich...even though you may have bought and paid for it."  When I googled the quote, this article came up.  I had this book years ago and loved it.  I think I gave it away at some point.  So I reserved it at the library.

Looks delicious

You can have a look at this book here.  Adam I thought of you when I saw the braised lamb shanks.  Looks like something you would make in your new pot!  I want to try the martini soaked olives.  Via the improvised life.

This time it was from my dental hygienist.  Thanks, Stacy for this book.  Here's the audio interview on NPR,  and a very short video of her.

Good bye, Holden:

J.D. Salinger died yesterday.  I hope they continue to never make The Catcher in the Rye into a movie.  Everyone has cast a different Holden in their minds.

Jung love

An interesting article about The Red Book...that Luke told me about.

Ashlee,

this is that sad poem we were chatting about the other day. I am sorry I haven't been a good book budy with The Waves. Forgive me!

W. H. Auden

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Joyce Meyer

She's good everyday, but wanted to post this one here. Wow, their video quality looks great. I could watch it on the internet instead of cable! I've watched Joyce for a good 1o plus years on tv. I recently discovered one of my other hero's Anne Lamott does too.

Reading

Went retro and reread this one. Still good.

Just starting this...Ashlee is too.

Picking this up again to refresh, and inspire. The best book on meditation.

Chris accidentally on purpose ordered this one that I must have left in his Amazon box after finding her the first time. What a lovely surprise. I'm loving entering her world!
